AVUSD Bus Drivers present Rio Vista with the Safest Bus Circle Award
On May 13, the AVUSD school bus drivers presented Rio Vista School of Applied Learning with the 2015-2016 Safest Bus Circle Award. A plaque and a commemorative banner were presented to Principal Larra Parr and the Rio Vista staff. The Safest Bus Circle award aligns with the mission of Apple Valley Unified School District to ensure safety and security for every student.

The Safest Bus Circle award was established six years ago by the AVUSD bus drivers. The drivers wanted to create an award that would honor schools for their commitment to student safety. Schools are selected through a vote, in which the drivers consider ease of traffic flow, organization and the best overall impression of student safety.

The Safest Bus Circle award is funded completely by the bus drivers. Sandy Dillman, Director of Transportation, offered to fund the award but the bus drivers respectfully declined the generous offer and insisted on paying for the commemorative plaque and refreshments each year. The Safest Bus Circle banner was donated by West Coast signs.
