Last Friday, nearly 400 students and family members gathered on the playground at Rancho Verde Elementary School to celebrate Grandparents/Special Person Day. Families brought lawn chairs, blankets and umbrellas, and were served sandwiches, watermelon, potato salad, and other picnic foods, served by Rancho Verde PTO and Student Council members.

Esther and her grandson Michael were all smiles and both said that they were excited about the event. “This is my first time, and this is my tenth grandchild," Esther said. "We're having a lot of fun."

Families also had the opportunity to have their picture taken at the outdoor photo booth.

Principal Joe Cranston explained that the school used to host a similar celebration, but had not done so in the last few years. He was excited to see the event come back to Rancho Verde and to continue the tradition.
